In honor of the NCAA Lacrosse Championships that were played over the weekend in Philadelphia, let’s look at NFL players that have a lacrosse background.

There are actually dozens of former NFL players that played lacrosse at the collegiate level or even in high school, but there are only a few current players that played in college prior to their time in the NFL

Two of the current players that played college lacrosse are Chris Hogan and Steven Hauschka.

Hogan is a wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills.  He signed with the Bills in 2012, after stints on the practice squad of the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Miami Dolphins.

In his career, Hogan has caught 51 receptions for 509 yards and four touchdowns.  The former undrafted free agent appeared in 16 games in 2013 and 2014.  Last season was a breakout season for the 6-foot-1 pass catcher as he recorded 426 yards on 41 catches and four touchdowns.

In high school, Hogan was an all-state selection in the state of New Jersey and in 2006 he was named New Jersey Midfielder of the Year for lacrosse.  Hogan played four seasons of lacrosse at Penn State, then transferred to Monmouth to play a year of football.

Hauschka plays for the Seattle Seahawks and is currently one of the best kickers in the NFL, but this almost did not happen.

The long-legged, 6-foot-4 kicker attended Middlebury College to play soccer.  After being cut from the team, Hauschka decided to try out for the football and he became the kicker and the punter.  While at Middlebury, he was a midfielder on the lacrosse team for two seasons.  Football became his niche and his focus.  After graduating from Middlebury, Hauschka went on to graduate school at North Carolina State and played football.

These young NFL players have excelled at multiple sports, which display their athleticism to the finest.  Each were midfielders at their respective schools before trying to make the NFL.  Both were successful on the lacrosse field, now the field is smaller for them and each player has found their role on their football team.
