One incident caused Darius Slay's respect for Matt Patricia to dwindle quickly

Three-time Pro Bowler Darius Slay is no longer a Detroit Lion, and it's probably because of Matt Patricia.

Slay was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday and finally opened up about his deteriorated relationship with Patricia in an interview with Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

While their relationship wasn't necessarily strong to begin with, Slay recalled an incident from 2018 training camp that sent things spiraling downward.

"He told me in front of the whole team, in the team meeting room, showed clips of me in practice getting a ball caught on me or so in practice. I posted a picture (of a wide receiver on social media), and he told me, stop sucking this man’s private," Slay told Birkett. "So I’m like, 'Whoa.' I’m like, 'Hold up.' Where I’m from, that don’t fly. Cause I wouldn’t say that to him. I wouldn’t say to him to stop you know what to Bill Belichick. I wouldn’t do that. That’s just not me as a man. That’s disrespectful to me and so from there on it was done with."

This was Patricia's first training camp with the Lions, and he obviously didn't get off on the right foot with his new team. Slay, 29, was so unbelievably upset by Patricia's comments that he said teammate Glover Quin had to help calm him down. Even an assistant coach tried to explain to Slay that Patricia was just trying to get his players to stay off social media, but the cornerback still was upset.

Slay and Patricia's relationship apparently got better in 2019, but it still wasn't mendable.

Patricia apparently had run-ins with other players as well, and his ornery personality reportedly doesn't appear to be the best fit for the locker room.
