Whether you are a Green Bay Packers fan or not, whether you are a football analyst or an enjoyer of football talk programs, the question on everyone’s mind is this: will Jordan Love be good? Ever since the Packers traded up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to take him, everyone has wondered if Love will be worthy of such a controversial move. After all, Aaron Rodgers is not someone who is very easily replaced.
Now that Rodgers has been traded to the New York Jets, the time has come for the world to find out what Love can do. While fans and analysts have seen glimpses from the limited playing time he has received over the last two years, there is little known about what exactly he can do.
That is why the reporting of Packers insiders who are watching practices at training camp is so valuable. One of these insiders is Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. He joined “The Mike Heller Show” on 97.3 The Game Thursday with an exciting analysis of Love’s play thus far.
There were reports early in camp that Love and the offense were struggling. While it is common across the NFL for defenses to get the better of the offenses early in training camp, Love’s struggles were put under the microscope because of the situation he is in.
Mike Heller asked Schneidman if Love had also shown any flashes of his ceiling, things that might prove that he is the guy.
“Without a doubt. I think there has been more really good from Jordan Love than really bad. I hadn’t counted exactly, but there is definitely more of ‘Oh wow! This guy could definitely be a guy’ than ‘This is just a disaster.’
“And that’s a good thing. Everything else has kind of been mushed in between. But there have definitely been bursts of brilliance that make you go, ‘Oo, this guy could be be something!’
“I mean, Bengals veteran cornerback Mike Hilton, we were talking to him in the locker room, and he says, ‘Jordan Love has got an arm. That’s what he’s been known for.’ Couple that with him slowing down his process and starting to read things quicker, and he thinks Green Bay has a good one.
“Now granted, he may just be being kind to an opponent, but I would definitely say there have been flashes of brilliance this preseason from Jordan.”
Love is certainly fighting an uphill battle this season. While he seems to have the support of the majority of the fanbase, he is still playing for a team with lofty expectations while taking over for a future Hall of Famer. Additionally, he will be throwing to an incredibly young group of wide receivers and tight ends.
No one (in their right mind) is expecting Love to go out there and be prime Aaron Rodgers in Week 1. All Love needs to do this season is be himself, because from the sound of it, himself is pretty darn good.
