Packers OL Jon Runyan's NFL blood runs deep
Green Bay Packers left guard Jon Runyan Jr. was drafted in the sixth round with pick No. 192 in 2020 out of Michigan. The third-year veteran has been very steady for Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and Green Bay's offense during his young career. He has played in all 33 regular-season games for the Packers each of the last two seasons, including the 16 he started in 2021. Runyan's NFL roots grow deep. He isn't the first Runyan to be looking at a long career as an NFL offensive lineman.
Jon Runyan Sr. was drafted out of Michigan in the fourth round with pick No. 109 in 1996 by the Houston Oilers. Runyan played for the Oilers from 1996-1999 before moving on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2000-2008. He would finish his career with the San Diego Chargers in 2009. Runyan was a Second-Team All-Pro in 1999 and then a Pr Bowler in 2002. He is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame and a member of the franchises's 75th Anniversary Team. He started 192 games out of the 207 that he played in during his 11-year career.
Jon Runyan Jr. is now looking at hopefully a decade-long career in the league at the very least like his father. No. 76 is a key piece of Green Bay's offensive line. He predominantly plays left guard but can play multiple positions. He is expected to be starting at left guard this season while the team awaits return of Pro Bowl guard Elgton Jenkins (ACL)
