Packers sign veteran safety Dallin Leavitt

The Green Bay Packers really are making special teams a massive priority this offseason. After hiring former Raiders special teams coordinator and interim head coach Rich Bisaccia to become the new special teams coordinator, the franchise continues to add former players of his.

After the Packers signed former Raiders cornerback and special teams contributor Keisean Nixon earlier this offseason, they signed another former Raider in safety and special teams contributor Dallin Leavitt on Monday.

In the past four years playing in Las Vegas (and Oakland) for Bisaccia, Leavitt appeared in 42 games. He played 839 snaps out of his 1,208 total snaps on special teams and led the Raiders with 12 solo tackles last season on special teams.

In 2021, the Oregon native played in 16 games: 249 snaps at safety and 348 on special teams. Leavitt did start one game on defense for Las Vegas. However, he was a clear impact performer on special teams for Bisaccia and the Raiders and wound up making the postseason.

Bisaccia's fingerprints are all over this signing. Green Bay Packers fans should be very excited about this move if they truly understood how bad their special teams unit has been over the past few seasons.

Along with Nixon and Leavitt, the Packers also signed former Bears punter Pat O'Donnell, who has experience successfully punting and holding field goals in the cold. That is something the Packers did not have last season. Bisaccia has this unit in a much better place than it ever was in 2021. If the Packers continue to mold and improve their special teams unit, that could be the difference in making a run at the Super Bowl in 2022.
