Patriots HC Bill Belichick on Mac Jones injury: 'What do I look like? A doctor? An orthopedic surgeon?'

New England Patriots second-year quarterback Mac Jones suffered a " pretty severe " high ankle sprain late in the team's Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. On Wednesday, head coach Bill Belichick addressed questions regarding whether the Alabama product will need surgery and if he has any shot of suiting up for Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers.

Belichick attempted to make it clear that he was in the dark about Jones' potential availability as much as the members of the media.

One thing that Belichick was able to confirm on Wednesday was that in the seemingly likely chance that Jones is unable to play against Green Bay, veteran signal-caller Brian Hoyer will get the nod. Hoyer is in his 14th NFL season (eighth with New England) but has not taken any snaps yet this year.

His last start came in 2020 in place of Cam Newton, as he went 15-for-24 with 130 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, and one interception in a 26-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jones was a Pro Bowler during his rookie season in 2021 and has made 20 straight starts to open his NFL career. He's had a rough start to the 2022 campaign, going 64-for-97 with 786 passing yards and two touchdowns, while sitting tied for the league lead with five interceptions.
