Ravens signing RB Le'Veon Bell to practice squad

The Baltimore Ravens needed help in the backfield after losing running backs J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill to season-ending injuries ahead of their season-opening matchup at the Las Vegas Raiders Monday night.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter (h/t Jamison Hensley), Baltimore signed veteran Le'Veon Bell to the practice squad Tuesday. The 29-year-old who earned three Pro Bowl nods during his best days with the Pittsburgh Steelers worked out with the Ravens on Monday and reportedly will be promoted to the active roster "soon."

Baltimore began Tuesday with Gus Edwards and Ty'Son Williams on the depth chart at running back, and it remains to be seen what Bell can contribute as a ball-carrier and pass-catching option at this stage of his career. He's never been the same dynamic offensive weapon since sitting out the entire 2018 season during his infamous contract dispute with the Steelers, and he last played for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2020 campaign after he fell out of favor with the New York Jets.

Bell accumulated 254 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 63 carries during regular-season play with the Chiefs but became an inactive spectator by Kansas City's Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in February.
