Report: Chiefs' Britt Reid admitted to drinking before serious car crash

Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach and assistant Britt Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid, was reportedly involved in a serious multi-car crash Thursday night, just three days before the team's Super Bowl LV showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As Adam Teicher reported for ESPN, Reid allegedly struck a vehicle that had run out of gas and also a second vehicle on an on-ramp to Interstate 435 in Kansas City. A pair of young children were in the backseat of the second car and were taken to a local hospital.

A 5-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries, while a 4-year-old was left with non-life-threatening issues.

Per a report shared by Kansas City television station KSHB, Reid told an arriving police officer that "he had two to three drinks and that he also took prescription Adderall." The report also claims Reid's eyes were bloodshot and that an officer noticed "a moderate odor of alcoholic beverages."

The Chiefs addressed the matter via a brief statement:

"The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid. We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved."

As noted by the Associated Press (h/t ESPN) and ESPN's Dianna Russini, this isn't Britt Reid's first run-in with law enforcement:

Britt Reid and other members of the Chiefs are scheduled to travel to Tampa for the Super Bowl on Saturday. His status for the game is up in the air as of early Friday evening.
