Report: Eagles' Lane Johnson recovering from ankle surgery

Philadelphia Eagles tackle Lane Johnson recently returned to the practice field this week in a limited capacity, and now we know why.

According to ESPN's Tim McManus, Johnson is recovering from ankle surgery he had in August. The surgery was described as a "cleanup."

The 30-year-old is considered day-to-day, and his availability for Philadelphia's season opener against the Washington Football team has not yet been determined.

Johnson suffered a high ankle sprain last December and missed the final three games of the regular season and the wild-card round against the Seattle Seahawks.

Among backups for Johnson are Matt Pryor, Jordan Mailata and Jack Driscoll, none of whom have started an NFL game.
