Report: Jets expected to pursue six-time Pro Bowler this offseason

Even though the New York Jets failed to acquire a star wide receiver before the trade deadline, that won't stop them from trying again.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the Jets will attempt to trade for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams this offseason. He added New York kicked the tires on the six-time Pro Bowler before the deadline, but it was "quickly rebuffed."

Reuniting quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Adams would make sense for the Jets. While the duo starred for the Green Bay Packers from 2014-22, Rodgers and Adams formed one of the best passing tandems in the league, connecting on 69 passing TDs.

New York (4-5) needs more offensive firepower. Entering Week 11, it's 30th in the NFL in passing yards (179.2) and points scored (16 PPG). Aside from second-year WR Garrett Wilson, no Jet has crossed the 35-reception or 370-receiving-yard mark.

Adams is in the second year of a five-year, $140M contract. Making room for his deal is challenging, but the Jets can make it work and find ways to create more space. Spotrac projects New York will have $13.8M in cap room in 2024.

However, trading Adams doesn't make sense for the Raiders (5-5), and they could still turn things around. Since Las Vegas fired Josh McDaniels and named Antonio Pierce interim HC, it's won two straight games.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that Adams "loves" Pierce, and the interim coach impressed owner Mark Davis. If the Raiders keep winning, Davis could give Pierce the full-time gig, convincing Adams to stay in Las Vegas.

Regardless, a lot can change before the end of the season, so it's smart for the Jets to keep tabs on Adams.
