Jets star opens up about players-only meeting

New York Jets second-year running back Breece Hall understands the players-only meeting he and others participated in following last Sunday's 16-12 loss at the Las Vegas Raiders is only worth so much as the 4-5 club prepares for this Sunday's matchup at the 5-5 Buffalo Bills.

"It was good and everything but at the end of the day, you can say whatever you want, but everybody’s got to come out and do their job," Hall said while speaking with media members on Friday, per Laura Albanese of Newsday. "You can say all the words and have all the encouragement and whatever the case may be, but you’ve got to do the job."

As noted by John Pullano of the Jets' website, Hall had a three-yard touchdown run against the Raiders taken off the scoreboard due to a holding penalty called on tight end C.J. Uzomah. New York's offense scored just eight touchdowns across the season's first nine games, and ESPN stats show the Jets will begin Sunday ranked 29th in the league with an average of 283.1 offensive yards per game.

Following last Sunday's result, a disappointed Hall told reporters that those associated with the Jets offense needed "to look at the man in the mirror first" and couldn't "point fingers or anything like that." Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson then revealed during an appearance on ESPN New York that members of the offense called a players-only meeting on Tuesday. Wilson hurt his right elbow in the defeat at the Raiders but indicated Friday he'll play at Buffalo's Highmark Stadium.

"We’ve got to be better," Wilson admitted about the New York offense. "We think that we have a great opportunity — we really do. We know a lot of people fell off the [band] wagon, as they should have, but that’s all right, but we’re ready to take that step. We’ve just got to go do it."

With quarterback Zach Wilson seemingly cemented atop the Jets' depth chart until further notice, oddschecker listed Gang Green as a seven-point underdog against Buffalo as of early Friday evening.
