Report: Steelers not interested in Deshaun Watson

It's been a whirlwind week for quarterback movement around the league, but one of the purported top signal-callers available has still yet to find a new home. And according to one report, you can scratch one QB-needy team off the list of potential suitors.

The Steelers are not interested in acquiring Deshaun Watson, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Watson is currently under contract with the Texans but is still dealing with a myriad of legal issues stemming from the numerous sexual assault allegations made against him last summer.

In terms of on-field ability, if Watson can return to the level of play he exhibited before the allegations, he figures to be the top quarterback believed to be on the market. Aaron Rodgers committed to returning to Green Bay on Tuesday, and Russell Wilson was traded to the Broncos later that afternoon. On Wednesday, Carson Wentz was traded to the Commanders.

The Steelers are left with three options then, it seems: draft a starter for next year; roll with Mason Rudolph, who is already in the organization; or acquire one via trade or free agency. Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and Mitchell Trubisky are among the names available as free agents, and Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be the top name publicly available via trade.

Whoever Pittsburgh does bring in under center, he will have big shoes to fill as the starting quarterback position becomes available for the first time in nearly two decades as Ben Roethlisberger retired this offseason. Except for in times of injury of suspension, Roethlisberger had been the Steelers' starter since being taken in the first round of the 2004 Draft.

NFL free agency is slated to begin March 16 at 1 p.m. ET, but teams and players can begin to negotiate as early as noon ET on March 14.
