Washington Redskins Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams continues to hold out from training camp. Unlike other players who remain away from their teams, Williams’ absence is not simply about money.

While one of the game’s best blindside protectors would like a new contract, he has taken issue with the Redskins’ brass, the medical team and president Bruce Allen. There’s just no trust between Williams and those involved.

Now, according to this report from Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman, things are simply “awful” between Williams and his Redskins.

“To be blunt, I had no idea it was so bad until I started speaking to people close to the situation. In a word, things are awful,” the longtime NFL scribe noted.

A top-five pick of the Redskins back in 2010, Williams has earned a Pro Bowl appearance in each of his past seven seasons. The future Hall of Famer is reportedly looking to be traded from the only organization he’s known. This report adds another layer to it.

In Williams’ stead, recently signed veteran Pro Bowler Donald Penn is getting a look at left tackle. That’s a less-than-ideal scenario for a Redskins team without a built-in starting quarterback heading into its preseason opener.
