Report: Tom Brady contract extension could add three more years

ESPN's Josina Anderson reported over the weekend that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were "getting closer" to reworking Tom Brady's contract. On Monday, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports provided some more details.

According to La Canfora, Brady is willing to make less than $25 million in 2021 in order to keep several of Tampa Bay's free agents in town for another Super Bowl run. He also says Brady believes he can play for at least three more years.

Here's what La Canfora writes specifically:

"He has one year at a modest $25M remaining on his deal, counting a hefty $25M against the cap. He wants that figure to be much lower, according to league sources, and so do the Bucs. He believes he can play three or more years, and so do the Bucs. He doesn't want to move his family or play anywhere else and, you guessed it, the Bucs don't want anyone but him under center for the foreseeable future."

It's not surprising that Brady is willing to take a salary cut or spread out the money over a longer period of time. The 43-year-old wants the same group around next season for another Super Bowl run. Lavonte David, Antonio Brown, Leonard Fournette, Rob Gronkowski and Shaquil Barrett are among the Bucs' top free agents and they were key pieces to the team's success last season.

Before Super Bowl LV, Brady admitted he was considering playing beyond age 45. The seven-time Super Bowl champion will turn 44 in August, so if he signs a three-year extension, he could be playing until he's 47 years old, which, by all accounts, is incredible.

Brady's wife, Gisele Bundchen, asked him a simple question after Super Bowl LV: "What more do you have to prove?" Apparently, Brady thinks he has a lot left to show.
