Robert Griffin III chronicles tale of his missing dog on social media

A potentially tragic story had a happy ending when former NFL QB Robert Griffin III and his family were reunited with their lost puppy, Benny.

Griffin, an analyst for ESPN, chronicled the episode in real time on his Twitter account Wednesday evening, first asking the public for help in locating Benny and then sharing the news his family found him.

The former Heisman Trophy winner last played in the NFL with the Ravens from 2018-2020, making two starts as a fill-in for Lamar Jackson.

In 2021, he joined ESPN and contributes to the network's college football and NFL coverage, including as a color commentator during college games and as a pregame analyst for "Monday Night Football."

While he hasn't given up on his playing career, Griffin has fit in nicely at his new home. In November 2022, Sports Illustrated ran an article titled "Robert Griffin III Is ESPN's Next Big Star."

It's been an eventful couple of months for Griffin. On New Year's Eve while on location for the College Football Playoff at the Fiesta Bowl between Michigan and TCU, he abruptly left midgame after he received a phone call from his wife, Grete Griffin, who believed she was going into labor.

It turned out to be a false alarm, and the couple announced the birth of their daughter on January 24.

After finding Benny, Griffin posted a video thanking everyone for helping in any way they could in finding his family's dog. In the video, he said he found Benny after he met a man who believed he had him.

Sure enough, Benny was in the man's backyard where, Griffin said, he was "having the time of his life."
