Robert Saleh: Jets 'working relentlessly' on extension for Marcus Maye

The New York Jets selected five defensive backs, including three safeties, in this year's draft. However, that doesn't mean Gang Green isn't trying to work on a contract extension for safety Marcus Maye.

Head coach Robert Saleh said Saturday that the Jets are "working relentlessly" on an extension for Maye, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

His comments come about one week after general manager Joe Douglas said keeping Maye around is a "priority."

Maye, a 2017 second-round pick out of Florida, has been productive in each of his first four seasons with the Jets, recording 2.5 sacks, six interceptions, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 266 tackles, five tackles for a loss and two quarterback hits.

Gang Green franchise-tagged the 28-year-old in March, paying him $10.612 million if he and the Jets cannot agree on a new deal.

In the event Maye and the Jets part ways, the franchise will have rookies Jamien Sherwood, Michael Carter II and Hamsah Nasirildeen to develop over time.
