Russell Wilson fires back at Pete Carroll's perceived wristband dig

The feud between Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll continued on Wednesday, when the nine-time Pro Bowler addressed Carroll's recent apparent comparison between Wilson and Geno Smith.

Earlier this week, Carroll seemed to take a jab at his former longtime quarterback in Seattle when giving praise to Smith, who has guided the team to a surprising 6-3 record this fall.

"If you notice, Geno’s going off the wristband, and that’s a big help," the coach told Seattle Sports 710 AM. "It’s smoothed things out, sped things up, cleaned things up. And that’s part of it, too. We never did that before. There was resistance to that, so we didn't do that before."

In his first season with the Broncos (3-5), Wilson has struggled with a career-low 58.8% completion percentage for 1,694 passing yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions through eight contests. Smith, meanwhile, leads the league in completion percentage (73.1%) and ranks third in passer rating at 107.2, behind only Tua Tagovailoa (115.9) and Jalen Hurts (107.8).

The former second-round pick of the New York Jets has thrown for 2,199 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions, while adding 41 carries for 196 yards and one touchdown over nine games as well.

To Wilson's credit, when he was traded to Denver in March, he left as the franchise's all-time leader in passing yards (37,059), passing touchdowns (292), fourth-quarter comebacks (24) and game-winning drives (32), among other categories. He also tops the Seahawks' leaderboard with 104 regular season wins, while adding nine more in the playoffs (including their only Super Bowl victory).
