Saints Sign Former Bolts Fullback

Former Los Angeles Chargers fullback Zander Horvath has inked a deal with the New Orleans Saints, per a Saints press statement.

The Bolts drafted the 6'3", 230-pound Horvath with the No. 260 pick in the seventh round out of Purdue in 2022. As a rookie, he played in 15 regular season games during the club's relatively successful 10-7 2022 season, starting two of them, while notching four carries for eight total yards and catching five total passes for two touchdowns. Horvath also logged a special teams tackle.

Horvath was selected to that year's Pro Football Journal All-Rookie First Team. He didn't suit up for a team last season, but did log practice team stints on both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chargers again.

Across four seasons and 38 career contests with the Purdue Boilermakers (including an All-Big Ten Third-Team selection as a junior), Horvath registered eight touchdowns across 268 carries and 68 receptions for 592 total yards, plus 1,181 total rushing yards.

Terms of Horvath's new agreement have yet to be divulged. Last season, with former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr under center, New Orleans finished with a 9-8 record and missed the playoffs. Horvath may not be the difference maker who'll take them back to the postseason, but he can still be a helpful contributor and may have some untapped upside.
