In 2018, the Buffalo Bills traded up to draft LB Tremaine Edmunds with the 16th pick, drafting him and Josh Allen in that first round. Since then, he’s had some up and down seasons, making some Bills fans wonder if he’s really the guy to man the defense. This season was Edmunds’ best season of his career so far, totaling 102 tackles, one sack, and one INT. Additionally, we’ve seen an uptick in his coverage skills. He has pretty much locking up the middle of the field. So that begs the question… Should the Bills re-sign Tremaine Edmunds?
Public Opinion
The vast majority of people (82.8%) think the Buffalo Bills will “definitely” bring Edmunds back. But at what contract? Spotrac has his market value projected at $11M per year, and has a projected contract set at four years/$44M. That projected contract would put him up with guys like Lavonte David, Zach Cunningham, Deion Jones, and Eric Kendricks.
The Bills can’t afford to break up the Tremaine Edmunds/Matt Milano duo, even if that means losing Jordan Poyer in the process. Especially considering that duo held the defense intact when they lost Micah Hyde and Von Miller. We’ve seen what happened when Edmunds missed time this past season. In the second half of the Minnesota game, Kirk Cousins threw it wherever he wanted to on the field with Tyrel Dodson at the ‘Mike’.
Tremaine told reporters after the Bills’ blowout loss that he’d love to continue playing here:
“Hopefully I’m here. I love it here, I love the brothers that I’ve created since I’ve been here, the coaching staff. The community has welcomed me, so hopefully things will turn out to be in my favor as far as being here.”

GM Brandon Beane even had some kind words for Edmunds, saying:
“Where that guy has gone [in his progression], it’s been amazing to watch. He is a big part of our success.”

The Buffalo Bills’ cookie jar is empty as of right now, as they’re projected to be at $-8M in cap space when free agency starts. Now Bills fans know that means nothing to Brandon Beane and he usually just moves money around, extends players, or releases players, and there’s definitely plenty of options for restructures or cuts. So that number isn’t set in stone and they could still bring back Edmunds and Poyer. (Just joking…)
