Steelers add another family duo to squad

It's no secret that the Steelers love to invest in NFL family bloodlines and that didn't change Thursday when they created another duo on the team.

Pittsburgh signed WR Simi Fehoko to its practice squad. He joins his cousin, NT Breiden Fehoko, who signed to the team's practice squad on Wednesday.

He hinted at joining the Steelers on Wednesday night when he posted, "How’s the weather over there in PA," on platform X. Pittsburgh made the cousin reunion official a day later.

Simi Fehoko, a fifth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2021, has appeared in just five games, posting three catches for 24 yards. But the 25-year-old certainly brings upside with his massive 6-foot-4, 218-pound frame.

During his final two seasons at Stanford, Fehoko caught 61 catches for 1,140 yards and nine touchdowns. He also tested well coming out of college, running a 4.43-second 40-yard dash.

It will likely take a couple of injuries for Fehoko to be activated or elevated to the 53-man roster as the Steelers kept six receivers on its roster. But Pittsburgh has had continued success with signing brothers, cousins or kids of NFL athletes.

The Fehoko cousins are now the third family duo on the team, joining the Heyward brothers (DT Cameron Heyward and TE Connor Heyward) and Herbig brothers (guard Nate Herbig and LB Nick Herbig).

The Steelers also drafted Joey Porter Jr., the son of former LB Joey Porter, in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh's investment into family bloodlines seems to be paying off and head coach Mike Tomlin can't get enough.

Following rookie LB Nick Herbig's second sack in the team's first preseason action, Tomlin asked, "Anyone else have a younger brother?"
