Steelers ILB turning heads during OTAs
The Steelers overhauled their inside linebacker room after it didn't force a single turnover in 2022. However, it isn't a new face that's been impressing during OTAs.
Second-year linebacker Mark Robinson pick-sixed QB Kenny Pickett during Tuesday's practice. It's nothing to get too excited about, but Robinson is certainly making the most of his opportunities.
"Any time we get a chance individually, everyone that comes in this locker room knows any time you get a rep on that grass, it's all gold," Robinson said via the team's website. "I treat it as such, and I plan on continuing to do so."
Robinson, who had just nine tackles in four games in 2022, is the lone member left from the group last season.
He has had to watch the inside linebacker room get completely retooled this offseason. Linebackers Myles Jack, Devin Bush and Robert Spillane left while linebackers Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts and Tanner Muse have since joined the team.
Pittsburgh has some tough decisions to make regarding its roster and the inside linebacker position is one of them. But luckily for everyone, that decision doesn't have to be made for a little while.
Robinson was the Steelers' seventh-round pick in 2022 and doesn't know what his role will be with the team in 2023 as he's been viewed as more of a project. However, he surely has an opportunity to become a starter if he continues making splash plays like he did Tuesday throughout the summer.
