Steelers lose family duo to desperate team

The Steelers love to invest in family bloodlines with several duos on their roster, but one of them got split up on Monday from a WR-needy team.

Pittsburgh reportedly lost WR Simi Fehoko, the cousin of NT Breiden Fehoko, after the Chargers signed him to their 53-man roster. Los Angeles needed another wide receiver after WR Mike Williams tore his ACL in Week 3.

Fehoko wasn't with the Steelers long, signing to their practice squad at the beginning of September. Although Pittsburgh has some injuries at wide receiver, it was still a long shot for him to see any action this season.

The former fifth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2021 has appeared in just five games, posting three catches for 24 yards. The massive 6-foot-4, 218-pound wide receiver now takes his talents to the Chargers where he'll likely have a better opportunity to see the field.

During his final two seasons at Stanford, Fehoko caught 61 catches for 1,140 yards and nine touchdowns. He also tested well coming out of college, running a 4.43-second 40-yard dash.

With the Fehoko cousins now split up, Pittsburgh is back down to two family duos on the team in the Heyward brothers (DT Cameron Heyward and TE Connor Heyward) and the Herbig brothers (guard Nate Herbig and LB Nick Herbig).

The Steelers also drafted Joey Porter Jr., the son of former LB Joey Porter, in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Head coach Mike Tomlin might have to look around to see if Pittsburgh can add another family duo since he clearly can't get enough.

Following rookie LB Nick Herbig's second sack in the Steelers' first preseason action, Tomlin asked, "Anyone else have a younger brother?"
