Stephon Gilmore reportedly won't attend Patriots' minicamp amid contract dispute
New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore reportedly won't attend the team's mandatory minicamp, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
The former Defensive Player of the Year is rehabbing from a partially torn quad and is holding out for a new contract.
Gilmore is due $7 million this season after the Patriots moved $4.5 million of his 2021 base salary into his 2020 compensation. His salary isn't ideal for someone considered to be an elite cornerback in the NFL.
According to Over the Cap, Jalen Ramsey, Marlon Humphrey and Tre'Davious White are the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. Each makes at least $17 million per year on average.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Monday that he expects to see some players who didn't show up for voluntary workouts to be present this week. However, he did not say whether or not Gilmore is one of them.
It's unclear if Gilmore plans to show up later this week. If he misses all three days, he'll be subject to $93,085 in fines.
