Super Bowl odds and trends: Get the early jump on Eagles-Chiefs

The Super Bowl might be two weeks away, but that doesn't mean we can't start looking ahead at the betting lines. And we're not just talking about the moneyline, spread and over/under either. We've got Super Bowl MVP odds, the coin toss, and much, much more. So, before you start placing your Super Bowl bets, read this to know how to bet the Super Bowl and what some of the current trends are from the previous Super Bowls.

Moneyline: Philadelphia Eagles (-135)/Kansas City (+115)
The moneyline favorite has won three of the last four Super Bowls and are 36-20 all-time in the Super Bowl. The NFC team has won the last two Super Bowls, and since the NFL formed two conferences in 1970, the NFC has won 24, while the AFC has won 20.

Spread: PHI (-2.5, -110)/KC (+2.5, -110)

Underdogs are 27-27-2 all-time against the spread in the Super Bowl and have covered the spread in consecutive seasons and three of the last five. Last year's Super Bowl was the first time since 2009 where the moneyline favorite won but failed to cover the spread. Super Bowl LVII marks the 16th straight Super Bowl where the favorite is giving up less than seven points on the spread.

Total Points: Over 49.5 (-110)/Under 49.5 Points (-110)
The under has hit in three straight Super Bowls and is 28-26-1 all-time in the Super Bowl (there was no over/under in Super Bowl I). The under has also hit in the last seven games of the postseason.

Super Bowl MVP odds via DraftKings:
Jalen Hurts (+120)
Patrick Mahomes (+125)
Travis Kelce (+900)
AJ Brown (+1000)

The Eagles are currently favored to win the Super Bowl, and unsurprisingly, quarterback Jalen Hurts is the Super Bowl MVP favorite, followed by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The quarterback for the winning team is rarely not the Super Bowl MVP, however, wide receiver Cooper Kupp did take home the honor last year. The last defensive player to win Super Bowl MVP was Von Miller back in Super Bowl 50 when he played for Denver. And maybe most interesting, only one player — Dallas' Chuck Howley — has won Super Bowl MVP while playing for the losing team.

Coin Toss Result: Heads (-104)/Tails (-104)
The Super Bowl coin toss has been heads for the last two years as well as four of last five. However, winning the coin toss might not be a good thing — the team that has won the coin toss has lost the previous eight Super Bowls. The last team to win the coin toss and the Super Bowl was Seattle back in XLVIII.

Opening Kickoff: Touchback (-142)/No touchback (+112)
Despite last year's Super Bowl opening kickoff resulting in a touchback, 28 of the previous 31 Super Bowl opening kickoffs have been returned. All three Super Bowl opening kickoffs that resulted in a touchback were also kicked in an indoor stadium.

Any Non-QB to throw a touchdown: (+2500 via FanDuel)
Last year Joe Mixon became the fifth non-quarterback to throw a touchdown in the Super Bowl and second running back to toss a touchdown in the game's history. The previous non-QB to throw a touchdown in the Super Bowl was Eagles tight end Trey Burton in 2018 on the play known as "Philly Special."
