Surgeon shares concerning update on Browns' Deshaun Watson

An orthopedic surgeon who hasn't treated Deshaun Watson offered somewhat of a concerning update regarding the shoulder injury that kept the Cleveland Browns quarterback from facing the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 1. 

"It really comes down to the amount of pain he’s having and how much that pain affects his ability to throw, and his strength in his arm, which affects his accuracy," Dr. Clint Soppe of the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute recently told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Obviously, a quarterback is going to feel that injury more than anybody else with his throwing shoulder. So it’s probably going to be somewhere from two-to-six weeks depending on how well he can perform."

Watson reportedly "aggravated" some teammates when he didn't play through what had been called a bruised throwing shoulder in the Week 4 game against Baltimore that Cleveland lost 28-3 to fall to 2-2 before the club's bye. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero revealed on Tuesday that the 28-year-old is actually dealing with a rotator cuff contusion.

Watson didn't practice Wednesday, leaving his status for this Sunday's home game against the 5-0 San Francisco 49ers up in the air. As of Wednesday afternoon, OddsChecker listed Cleveland as a six-point underdog for that contest. 

Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports reported Tuesday that backup P.J. Walker will start over rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson if Watson can't go against the Niners.
