Titans RB Derrick Henry having foot surgery; no timetable for potential return

It was reported earlier in the day that Tennessee Titans running back and current Most Valuable Player candidate Derrick Henry could miss the remainder of the season because of the foot injury he suffered in Sunday's 34-31 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Henry will have surgery to repair the setback on Tuesday.

"We’re not going to put a timeline on when he may return," Titans head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters Monday about his star ball-carrier. "I know that he’ll do everything that he can to work himself back to be able to help this football team. And whenever that is, that’s when it’ll be. I know that he’ll be around our team as soon as he can. I know that’s important to him and I know that’ll be important to our team.

"We’ll have to move on, unfortunately, without him in the short term and not look back."

Simmons adds that Henry is expected to be sidelined for at least eight weeks.

Per NFL stats, Henry enters November leading the league with 937 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. To compare, Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts is second in the NFL with 649 rushing yards.

Henry is the reigning two-time rushing champion but will likely lose that crown unless he makes an unexpected return to the lineup. According to insider Josina Anderson, free agent and future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson is set to work out with Tennessee on Monday.

The Titans could also make a move for a different running back before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
