Titans waive RB Adrian Peterson after three games

It appears veteran running back Adrian Peterson may not climb up the all-time career rushing yards list as a member of the Tennessee Titans

The Titans announced Tuesday they've released Peterson as part of a handful of roster moves.

Tennessee acquired the seven-time Pro Bowl selection after leading rusher and former Most Valuable Player candidate Derrick Henry went down with a foot injury coming off a win over the Indianapolis Colts on Halloween. Peterson accumulated a total of 82 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries across his three games with Tennessee, and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the Titans could ultimately welcome the 36-year-old back, potentially to their practice squad:

Peterson heads into the Thanksgiving holiday fifth in league history with 14,902 rushing yards, 367 behind Detroit Lions legend Barry Sanders (15,269 yards) for fourth on that list.

The Titans fell to 8-3 on the season via a surprising 22-13 upset loss to the lowly Houston Texans this past Sunday and will look to rebound from that result when they play at the first-place New England Patriots (7-4) this coming Sunday before their bye. Peterson could be back with Tennessee before that contest if he clears waivers this week.
