A Tom Brady rookie card just added to the list of records for the greatest quarterback in NFL history. Months removed from his seventh Super Bowl victory and weeks after another rookie card sold for millions, Brady landed a new world record this week.
At a recent auction, NFL fans created a bidding war for a Brady rookie card. It didn’t lake long on Saturday morning for bidders to blow past the previous record. When the auction was finally over, the winning bid came in at $3.107 million.
The frenzy started at $750,000, per USA Today, with offers quickly skyrocketing the price. After 32 bids, one collector walked away with a 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket card.
The Tom Brady rookie card is certainly special. Enclosed in a case, it received a “Mint 9” grade, a higher mark than the last record-setting card. In addition, the card features Brady’s signature and features the legendary quarterback taking an iconic drop back in a New England Patriots uniform.
It wasn’t the only piece of Brady memorabilia that sold for an astonishing price. One collector purchased the football from Brady’s first career touchdown, thrown to Terry Glenn in 2001. Lelands, which conducted the auction, sold the football for $428,000.
The Buccaneers enter the 2021 NFL season as the favorites to win the Super Bowl. If Brady wins another ring, you can bet he’ll keep breaking his own records.
