The Kansas City Chiefs may undergo a period of adjustment this season.

Losing Tyrann Mathieu will be a huge void to fill for their defense, especially top safeties Justin Reid and Juan Thornhill.

Likewise, their offense will have a different look without All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

“Cheetah” was traded to the Miami Dolphins and signed a four-year, $120 million deal with the AFC East squad.

To compensate for his production, the Chiefs are looking at JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to produce solid numbers.

Likewise, Hill’s departure means that tight end Travis Kelce will have a bigger role in their offense.

Last season, Kelce had 1,125 yards and nine touchdowns.

He also caught the game-winning touchdown that sent them to their fourth consecutive AFC Championship Game.

The year before, he set a tight end record of 1,416 yards to go with a career-high 11 touchdowns.

But while he already owns a piece of NFL history, CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr thinks that the 2022 season could be even more historic for the Cincinnati alumnus.

Kerr tweeted, “Travis Kelce is 994 yards away from becoming the 5th TE in #NFL history to reach 10,000 receiving yards. Kelce is 280 yards away from passing Rob Gronkowski for 5th all-time. He’s 1,055 yards away from passing Shannon Sharpe for 4th all-time.”

Kelce Can Chase More Milestones In 2022

Ask any player from the Chiefs and they would rather win another Super Bowl than set personal records.

They had an opportunity to win another one but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated them in Super Bowl LV.

Gronkowski was a part of that squad and caught two touchdown passes in that game.

However, attaining personal achievements wouldn’t hurt, especially if it puts you in the conversation of being the best at your position.

For Kelce, surpassing the recently-retired “Gronk” is the easiest to achieve among the reachable milestones.

With him being a primary option on offense, it’s a safe bet that he will reach 10,000 receiving yards and surpass Sharpe by the end of the regular season.
