Week 10 fantasy football waiver wire must-adds

There were plenty of letdowns and injuries to go around in Week 9 of the NFL season. Every Tuesday, we will dive into a handful of the top fantasy football pickups available that week and why they could be of value for fantasy owners looking to give their teams an extra boost.

Here are the top waiver-wire adds for Week 10:

1. Keaton Mitchell, RB, Baltimore Ravens (rostered in 1% of fantasy leagues)

Justice Hill has averaged just 31.4 yards per game this season, and after Mitchell’s breakout performance last week in which he ran for 138 yards and a touchdown on nine carries (15.3 yards per carry), he could be in line to see more touches moving forward.

Gus Edwards has rushed for over 50 yards in five of nine games this year and he’s scored five touchdowns in his last two, so his role as a goal-line and change-of-pace back is likely secure. Mitchell has 4.3 speed, which makes him a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He is an excellent mid-season pickup for a team needing RB depth or needing help in the flex spot.

2. Cade Otton, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (rostered in 2% of fantasy leagues)

Otton has really come on strong over the last three weeks, totaling 15 catches on 21 targets for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Among TEs, he ranks seventh in touchdowns and 17th in receptions.

Otton has emerged as one of Baker Mayfield’s go-to options and he’s been targeted more than Mike Evans over the last three games. Unless you have a star like Travis Kelce, George Kittle, T.J. Hockenson or Mark Andrews, Otton deserves a look as a TE1.

3. Gerald Everett, TE, Los Angeles Chargers (rostered in 52% of fantasy leagues)

Mike Williams's absence has opened up a huge hole in the Chargers passing game, and with Quentin Johnston really struggling, Justin Herbert has had to rely on his tight ends more than usual.

Everett has two touchdowns in his last three games and he’s a favorite target of Herbert’s in the red zone. He has more targets this season than fellow TE Donald Parham, and he could see more passes come his way as long as Johnston continues to be a non-factor. Everett could be worth taking a flier on.

4. Carson Wentz, QB, Los Angeles Rams (rostered in 0.5% of fantasy leagues)

Though Wentz hasn’t played since Jan. 1, 2022, the fact that the Rams signed him off the street shows that they don’t have much faith in Brett Rypien, who threw for 130 yards and an interception last week and that Matthew Stafford may be shelved for a while.

The Rams throw the ball quite a bit (they have the seventh-most pass attempts in the NFL), so if Wentz does, indeed, start this week against the Seattle Seahawks, he will probably be throwing a lot. With weapons like Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, Wentz could put up big numbers.

5. Juju Smith-Schuster, WR, New England Patriots (rostered in 17% of fantasy leagues)

Smith-Schuster saw a season-high seven targets in Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Washington Commanders, catching six passes for 51 yards — both also season-highs. His 20-yard reception was also the Pats’ longest play of the game.

With Kendrick Bourne out for the year and DeVante Parker battling a concussion, Smith-Schuster could see a lot more targets going forward, especially on deep passes. He could be worth a look as a flex start of a WR2 in a pinch.

Honorable mention

Joshua Dobbs, QB, Minnesota Vikings: If Dobbs can put up 224 yards and three touchdowns without taking a practice rep, imagine what he can do with a full week of practice under his belt.

Ty Chandler, RB, Minnesota Vikings: With Cam Akers lost for the season, Chandler appears to be Minnesota’s new No. 2 running back and will likely get Akers’ 8-10 touches per game.
