Will Anderson Jr. 'amazed' by Texans rookie defender

The Houston Texans have put the league on notice.

Following a surprising 10-7 campaign, which included a postseason win against the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round of the playoffs, the team added a ton of talent via free agency.

However, it seems the Texans' good fortunes don't stop there as one of their rookies from the 2024 NFL Draft is quickly gaining respect among his new teammates.

Cornerback Kamari Lassiter, Houston's second-round pick (No. 42), has already been impressing second-year edge-rusher Will Anderson Jr.

"I've been so amazed by him, man," Anderson said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. "He's been making plays left and right all over the field. He's electric, man."

That's some high praise from Anderson, who had himself a great rookie year in which he registered 45 tackles, seven sacks and one pass defensed on his way to being named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Lassiter was the Texans' first selection in this year's draft after they decided to trade their first-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings. Anderson thinks Houston may have landed a steal in the second rounder.

"Another young guy that we can't wait to keep seeing grow and stuff like that," Anderson added. "I think he can do great things for this defense and be a part of something special that we have going on here."

Lassiter earned a reputation for being tough in coverage at Georgia, totaling 86 tackles, one sack, one interception and 14 passes defensed the past three years.

That mixed with his early glowing reviews have put him in the mix for a starting job right out of the gate, playing opposite 2022 No. 3 overall pick Derek Stingley Jr.

The last thing the rest of the league needed was for the Texans to land another star player. Lassiter may turn out to be exactly that as Houston eyes its first Super Bowl in 2024.
