The Boston Bruins are one of two NHL teams without a head coach. With the Pittsburgh Penguins as the only other franchise without a coach, Boston seems to be narrowing down their search and ready to announce a new head guy this week.

The Athletic’s Fluto Shinzawa reported last week that Washington Capitals’ Assistant Coach Mitch Love, and former Bruin Marco Sturm, the Head Coach of the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, are the finalists for the Bruins vacant position. Both candidates were interviewed in person, and reportedly, the results were positive for both.

The Bruins announced Monday that longtime assistant Joe Sacco, who was the interim head coach this past season, will no longer be considered and is leaving the organization after 11 seasons with the club. Another applicant, Jay Woodcroft, former head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, was also rumored to be a serious consideration. However, the other two names are surfacing now as finalists.

The Bruins just finished a disappointing season and are in a “retooling” mode with the seventh pick in the 2025 NHL Draft in their possession as well as over $25 million in salary cap space.
