San Jose Sharks left winger Evander Kane Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Evander Kane posts pic of himself in Sharks uniform, stokes speculation about status with team

The investigation into allegations Evander Kane bet on NHL games is ongoing, as is speculation regarding where he will play next season.

The 30-year-old forward posted a photo on social media on Tuesday showing he was sporting San Jose Sharks gear. While such snapshots aren't uncommon among NHLers, this particular post comes roughly a week after it was reported the team is looking to move him and some of his teammates don't want him on the roster next season.

Kane has been the focal point of NHL offseason news since his estranged wife, Anna, made allegations he was betting on NHL games and even throwing some Sharks games to turn a profit. While Kane himself has admitted to having a gambling problem and has sought treatment for it, he has vehemently denied ever betting on hockey.

San Jose was active at the opening of free agency last month, filling in holes at the goalie and on offense. Even with the addition of Andrew Cogliano and Nick Bonino to the forward attack, there are now questions as to how the Sharks would make up for Kane's offensive contributions if he isn't on the team next season.

Kane led the Sharks with 49 points (22 goals, 27 assists) in what was a mostly forgettable 2020-21 campaign. Team Teal missed the playoffs for a second straight season, the first time it has missed back-to-back postseason births since its first two years in the league.
