After what many referred to as a vicious slash by Oilers' Darnell Nurse on Stars' Roope Hintz, it was determined today that he will not face further discipline.
Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse will not be handed any supplementary punishment by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for his slash in Friday's 3-0 win over the Dallas Stars.
The incident occurred when Dallas forward Roope Hintz got in front of the Oilers' net and shoved Nurse. Nurse then slashed Hintz's left leg, receiving a two-minute minor penalty.
Officials did consider whether it should be a major
The play was considered by officials as to whether or not it should be a major penalty, but they allowed it to remain a minor. Stars fans were fuming on social media.
Hintz hobbled off the ice in apparent distress following the slash. He was helped by an athletic trainer and was supported off without putting weight on his left foot. He did not return. A report was not provided after the game regarding how he was doing.
Hintz played 12:08 of ice time before leaving and had recorded five goals and six assists in 14 playoff games heading into Friday's game.
Despite the Stars complaining after the game, Sportsnet's Mark Spector reports that Nurse won't be penalized or suspended.
Edmonton evened the Western Conference Final series one game apiece after the win. The series proceeds to Edmonton for Game 3 on Sunday afternoon. Game 3 airs at 1 p.m. MT, with the Oilers looking to take full advantage of their home ice.
