The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has announced that the Mississauga Steelheads will be relocating to Brampton after approval from the OHL Board of Governors.

The league said in a release on Thursday that the team would retain the “Steelheads” name and will play out of the CAA Centre starting in the 2024-25 season. Mississauga’s Paramount Fine Foods Centre, is roughly seven kilometres away from the CAA Centre.

Brampton will have another chance at homing an OHL team after the Brampton Battalion relocated to North Bay after the 2012-13 season. Part of the reason for the relocation at the time was the poor attendance record, the Battalion struggled and averaged an OHL-low 2,191 fans per game in its last season.

Hockey in Mississauga has been around for a long time, the Steelheads’ history goes back to when they were the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors and Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors until they rebranded in 2012-13 as the Steelheads. Some of the Steelheads alumni include Ryan McLeod, Casey Cizikas, Owen Tippett, Nicolas Hague, Thomas Harley, Owen Beck and more.
