Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere announced that winger Owen Tippett had left Saturday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche due to a lower-body injury.

Tippett, 24, left the game early in the third period after an awkward collision into the boards with Avs winger Johnathan Drouin caused him to land on his left leg. It’s unclear as to the severity of the injury, or how long Tippett will be out of the lineup.

Tippett left the game with an assist and two hits in 14:24 of ice time, as the Flyers would lose 7-4 to the Avs.

The Peterborough, Ontario product would be a big loss for the Flyers if he’s out for any length of time, as he’s been one of their best players with 18 goals and 12 assists for 30 points in 46 games. It puts Tippett on pace for 53 points in a full season, which would be a career-high for him.

Tippett has become one of the better goal scorers in the league since joining the Flyers at the 2022 trade deadline. His 1.04 5v5 goals per 60 minutes in the past three seasons with Philly is tied for 39th in the league among forwards with at least 1,500 minutes of ice time.

Tippett is a former 10th-overall pick of the Florida Panthers in the 2017 NHL Draft, and after cracking the Panthers lineup in training camp that following season for a seven-game tryout, he didn’t truly start his professional career until the 2019-20 season. He spent parts of three seasons with the Panthers organization before he was dealt to the Flyers in 2022 as part of the return for Claude Giroux, and he has since spent the past three years in Philadelphia.

Tippett is in the final year of a two-year contract with a $1.5 million cap hit, and will be a restricted free agent in the 2024 offseason with arbitration rights.

The Flyers saw their five-game winning streak end with the loss to the Avs, and will be looking to get back to their winning ways when they host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST. The Flyers currently sit in second in the Metropolitan Division with a 25-15-6 record.
