Five years after being drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Penguins and three years after being traded to the Minnesota Wild, defenseman Calen Addison's next stop appears to be in San Jose, California.

According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, the Wild are nearing a trade that will send Addison to the San Jose Sharks. Weekes says he "wouldn't be surprised" if Minnesota receives draft compensation in return.

"I'm told the Minnesota Wild are trading defenseman Calen Addison to the San Jose Sharks," Weekes said. "Details to be delivered when they become available."

Michael Russo of The Athletic is reporting the Sharks will send Minnesota a 2026 fifth-round pick for Addison.

Addison, 23, had just 11 minutes, 34 seconds of ice time playing with Daemon Hunt as Minnesota's third defensive pair Tuesday night against the Islanders. In 12 games this season Addison has zero goals, five assists and a net rating of -3.

Addison being dealt is possibly an indication that Jared Spurgeon will return to the Wild for the first time this season. He was believed to be on the verge of making his season debut after suffering an upper-body injury in Minnesota's Oct. 5 preseason game against Chicago, and his presence in the lineup would bolster a defensive unit that has struggled in the first 12 games of the season.
