Senators moving on from goaltender Craig Anderson
It appears that veteran netminder Craig Anderson will be moving on from the Ottawa Senators — but not by choice.
According to Bruce Garrioch of TSN, Senators general manager Pierre Dorion revealed the club will not offer Anderson a new deal and instead move in a new direction.
After finishing his two-year, $9.5 million deal with the Senators this season, Anderson now will enter free agency at 39 years old. It's not known if he'll retire or attempt to play for a new organization.
Anderson has been a member of the Senators for the past decade. He joined the club after stints with the Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Chicago Blackhawks. The Illinois native holds the majority of the Senators' all-time goaltending records, including most games played (435) and most wins (202).
The former Masterton Trophy winner skated in 34 games for the Senators this season, posting a .902 save percentage and 3.25 goals-against average.
Ottawa now will take a look at the free-agent market, which is full of goaltenders this offseason. Braden Holtby, Robin Lehner, Jacob Markstrom, Corey Crawford and Anton Khudobin are among the available free-agent netminders. The club also could either draft a goaltender or stick with Anders Nilsson and Marcus Hogberg.
