Atalanta have completed the first signing of 2024 in Serie A, getting Isak Hien on a permanent transfer from Hellas Verona.

The Sweden international had undergone his medical examinations with La Dea on January 1, 2024 and has now completed a permanent transfer to the Gewiss Stadium.

“Atalanta B.C. wish to announce the signing of Isak Malcolm Kwaku Hien on a permanent transfer from Hellas Verona. The strapping right-footed centre-back from Sweden (standing at 191cm tall) is now a Nerazzurro. Atalanta’s new signing will don the number 4,” La Dea said in an official statement.

“Born on the 13th of January 1999 in Kista, Sweden, to parents of Ghanian and Burkinabè origins, Isak joins Atalanta from Hellas Verona, with whom he has played 10 Serie A games – all of them featuring the Gialloblù starting XI – so far this season. In the previous campaign as a Hellas player, Hien accrued 33 Serie A appearances, including the relegations playoff against Spezia. Before joining The Scaligers in late August 2022, Hien played six UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying matches (scoring also a goal) with Djurgardens: during the 2021/22 season, in addition to his official debut in the Allsvenskan (the Swedish top division), Isak made 21 appearances for the Blåränderna scoring also 2 goals.

“Coming through the Swedish Youth system, Hien took his first footballing steps with Valasund: after rising through the ranks of the Academy, he made his professional debut playing in the “Ettan Norra” and then in the “Superettan” – respectively, the second and third division of Swedish football – with the Stockholm-based Club.

“Thus far, Hien has also accrued 8 appearances for the Sweden National team.

“Atalanta B.C. would like to extend a warm welcome to Isak and wish him the best of luck in his future personal and team endeavours as a Nerazzurro.”
