Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist is full of pride with his first goal for the club.

Gilchrist struck in the 6-0 rout of Everton last week.

He told tonight's match programme: "It was so many emotions at once, as soon as the ball left my foot. Mainly excitement, as you could see by the celebration!

"It was just a crazy moment. From the beginning of the season until now, that's probably not what I would have thought would happen to me, that I would score a goal in the Premier League. I'm just ticking off goals that are so meaningful to me this season.

"It's a dream come true for anyone, but especially for me, being a fan, being here so long, coming through the Academy. It's just what dreams are made of, really, and what every little kid wants to do and I'm doing it. I'm so pleased."

On signing a new contract last month, Gilchrist said: "I feel like it's a reward.

"I'm very happy and grateful to everyone that's helped me, but also grateful for the opportunity that Chelsea have given me, and I feel like I've taken it.

"Everyone's been really welcoming since I moved over to the first-team building. The training load is a big difference, and I'm still getting used to that, but enjoying it.

"The levels, the concentration has to be 100 per cent all the time, you can never be on your heels, you have to be ready to go at all times. I'm playing against the best players in the world every day and I feel like that's improved me from the beginning of the season as well."
