Christian Eriksen joins Manchester United on three-year deal

Reports emerged in June that star midfielder Christian Eriksen rejected a possible move to Premier League club Manchester United in favor of either remaining at Brentford or returning to Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent seven years before he joined Inter Milan in January 2020.

The situation officially changed on Friday.

As ESPN noted, United announced the signing of Eriksen on a three-year contract after the 30-year-old left Brentford this summer as a free agent.

"Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling," Eriksen said for a club statement.

The midfield maestro also offered praise for manager Erik ten Hag.

"I have seen Erik’s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day," Eriksen continued. "It is clear that he is a fantastic coach. Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future. I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey."

Eriksen famously suffered cardiac arrest at the UEFA European Championship in June 2021 and had his Inter Milan contract terminated by mutual consent last December because Italian rules prevented him from playing with his implanted cardioverter defibrillator. He ultimately joined Brentford in January and went on to tally one goal and four assists across 11 appearances through the end of the season.
