Inter Milan, Christian Eriksen terminate contract by mutual consent

It's been known for months that midfielder Christian Eriksen would not be able to return to competitive action with Inter Milan because he still is fitted with a defibrillator coming off the cardiac arrest he suffered featuring for Denmark during the UEFA European Championship in June.

The Serie A outfit confirmed the inevitable Friday.

Inter announced that they terminated Eriksen's contract by mutual consent. The 29-year-old, who joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020, helped them win the league title but hasn't played since his life-threatening incident. Earlier this month, he spent time training at Odense Boldklub, his youth club in Denmark.

It's unknown if he'll be cleared to sign with a team in a different country at some point next year.

"Although Inter and Christian are now parting ways, the bond shall never be broken," the club said in its statement. "The good times, the goals, the victories, those Scudetto celebrations with fans outside San Siro – all this will remain forever in Nerazzurri history."

Inter also penned a heartwarming letter to Eriksen and shared a video message:

It was previously said Eriksen could potentially play professionally in Holland and England with his ICD device but only if he can pass a club medical.
