Paris Saint-Germain reportedly rejected chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted on Monday that superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale despite reports and rumors that the 37-year-old wants to leave Old Trafford to play in the upcoming UEFA Champions League competition.

Ronaldo didn't join United for their preseason tour of Asia and Australia but reportedly is not a serious option for Chelsea or Bayern Munich at this time. It appears yet another team won't be in for his services this summer either.

According to Julien Laurens of ESPN, French giants Paris Saint-Germain rejected the chance to sign Ronaldo after he was offered to them by agent Jorge Mendes. Laurens notes that Mendes is close with Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luis Campos and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and spoke with the pair about a potential transaction.

"Sources added that PSG don't feel that Ronaldo is the right signing at this moment and that the club doesn't have enough space in their wage bill to pay him," Laurens explained about the team that already has Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar in its attack.

Neymar has been linked with Chelsea in some transfer rumors, but it's unclear if PSG could unload the 30-year-old to any buyer this summer.

Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals across all competitions for United last season, is said to be dealing with a legitimate "family issue" that prevented him from participating in United's preseason tour.

"We are planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that's it," ten Hag said Monday. "I'm looking forward to working with him. I have read [that he wants to leave], but what I say is Cristiano is not for sale, he is in our plans and we want success together.

"I spoke with him before this issue came up, I had a conversation with him and I had a good talk. That is between Cristiano and me. What I can confirm is we had a really good conversation together."
