Despite a recent downturn in form, Marcus Thuram has more than exceeded expectations since joining Inter on a Bosman move last summer. The Nerazzurri paid just €8M in commissions after his contract with Borussia Moenchengladbach ran out. He has a €6.4M cost on their balance sheets, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

The soon-to-be Scudetto champions don’t necessarily need to sell but always keep an eye out for big profits. They did it with André Onana, who spent just a year at the club, last summer when Manchester United put a pile of cash on the table. They re-used it for multiple purchases.

Thuram has a €95M release clause in his contract with Inter. The management would have no say, other than offering him renewal, if a team triggered it. Considering how little they spent to onboard him, a €70/75M bid could be enticing enough for them to consider a sale.

The Frenchman is drawing interest from the Premier League, although things haven’t gone past early inquiries. He has tallied 12 goals and 11 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions this season, recording a double-double in Serie A.

Our Take on Inter and Thuram

Perhaps the economic hit from getting eliminated early from the Champions League is more hurtful than imagined, but even if their front office always bounces back brilliantly, it’d be disheartening if they sacrificed another young star at the altar of their finances. They should add to their frontline to begin with.
