Could this summer see Manchester City make a change at right-back? Kyle Walker has made the role his own with the world champions since he arrived at the club from Tottenham Hotspur. A fresh report indicates that Bayern Munich may be set to renew their interest in the City captain this summer. If that proves to be the case, could the champions be set for a new look at right-back heading into next season?

Harry Pratt has reported for the Daily Star that Bayern Munich is planning a summer move for Kyle Walker. Furthermore, Pratt also reports that City became aware of Bayern’s interest in Walker when the champions enquired about the availability of Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala. In addition to Bayern Munich’s interest in Walker Pratt reports it is unknown at this stage it Kyle Walker fancies a move abroad at this late stage of his illustrious career.

Bayern’s continued interest in Kyle Walker does raise the possibility of a summer overhaul at right-back for Manchester City. A quick look at the City squad reveals that Manuel Akanji and Rico Lewis could step up next season if Walker did depart the champions. Both players have played the role successfully for Pep Guardiola over the past two seasons. They both, however, play the role in different ways, which adds different strings to Manchester City’s bow.

If Walker did depart, it could also see Manchester City bring in another option for the position. Yan Couto has impressed with Girona this season, and that form may earn him a chance to impress Pep Guardiola during City’s pre season. Another option for the champions could be to buy another right-back. Phil Thomas has previously reported for the Sun that City could move for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong has previously spent time at Manchester City in the youth set up before he moved on to Celtic. He has since made a name for himself at Bayer Leverkusen as he has been a key part of their Bundesliga triumph this campaign. He could potentially be one player City look to as a replacement for their captain.

At some point in the near future, Manchester City will have to look for a replacement for Kyle Walker. With Akanji and Rico Lewis, they do have two viable options already amongst their current squad. But if Bayern does make a move for Walker and he is keen for a new adventure, it may see City move into the market for another right-back. It looks like it could become another position Manchester City may need to upgrade in what is promising to be a busy summer for the world champions.
