La Liga players can return to training on May 4

There's a glimmer of hope the 2019-20 La Liga season can finish amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As reported by Sky Sports and other outlets, Spanish footballers will be able to return to training on May 4. AFP (h/t Yahoo Sports) notes players will be under strict guidelines, such as undergoing coronavirus tests before they return to training and wearing kits, gloves, and masks before entering facilities.

AFP also added only six players will be allowed on a pitch at a given time under this phase of the country easing lockdown measures.

La Liga and other competitions around the world suspended play in mid-March due to the virus outbreak. There's currently no return date for Spain to allow games to resume. When matches get underway, they'll likely occur inside empty venues.

On Monday, Spain's health minister explained he couldn't offer hope that Spanish football would return until at least the summer months.

La Liga clubs have 11 matchdays remaining on their domestic calendars. Barcelona sit atop the table on 58 points. Rivals Real Madrid are on 56 points. Sevilla are a distant third on 47 points.

Less than a week after the Dutch Eredivisie voided the 2019-20 season and prevented Ajax from being crowned champions, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe ended the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons on Tuesday after he announced sporting events will remain banned in the country until at least September. Paris Saint-Germain will win the title if the season is deemed finished and not voided.

English Premier League clubs are scheduled to meet on Friday regarding the completion of the domestic season.
