A number of Manchester United players are enjoying stellar World Cup campaigns with their respective nations and surprisingly, Brazil is the side with more Reds than any other country (four including Alex Telles).

Casemiro is, however, the only United player to start both of Brazil’s games so far. The 30-year-old starred in their opening-day win over Serbia and he has now followed that up with another high-class performance against Switzerland.

The former Real Madrid star anchored the midfield alongside Fred but the latter was withdrawn after roughly an hour, with Brazil chasing the breakthrough goal.

And up stepped Casemiro, who sweetly struck the ball on the half-volley to fire his nation into the round of 16, where they will face one of the teams from Group H.

The goal was far from his only contribution in the game and that has now been recognised by organisers, with the midfield colossal being presented with the Player of the Match award after the game, as seen below.

In addition to scoring the decisive goal, Casemiro boasted an 85% pass accuracy, had 61 touches of the ball and completed 41 passes throughout the game, according to Statman Dave.

Furthermore, he broke up Switzerland attacks on a regular basis, recording four interceptions. He also completed two out of three attempted long balls.
