Manchester City agree to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund

Manchester City will be hoping that good things truly come to those who wait as it pertains to their latest acquisition.

As Rob Dawson explained for ESPN, City confirmed on Tuesday they've reached an agreement to sign superstar striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund less than 12 months after the reigning Premier League champions failed to land forward Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Sky Sports, City will pay £85.5 million in total for the highly rated 21-year-old, including the release clause attached to his contract, his signing bonus, agent fees and other unspecified costs. Football transfer insider Fabrizio Romano tweeted that Haaland will earn £375,000 per week with City, the same as current club midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne.

Haaland had been linked with giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in rumors but instead is set to officially join City on July 1.

Since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, Haaland has netted 85 goals in 88 matches for his current employer. He will soon be part of what may arguably be the deepest squad in Europe:

"If Erling Haaland goes there, it will not weaken them, definitely not," Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently told Sky Sports. "I think there's enough spoken about this transfer. I know there is a lot of talk out there about money, but this transfer will set new levels, let me say it like this."

Ahead of this past weekend, City boss Pep Guardiola admitted maybe he was "not good enough to help the team" win the UEFA Champions League title that's eluded him since he accepted the job in 2016. Haaland may be just what Guardiola needs to ultimately hoist that trophy with the English club.
