Tottenham's Harry Kane: Manchester City saga won't tarnish reputation

Tottenham Hotspur striker and England captain Harry Kane was linked with a big-money move to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City throughout the summer before he committed his immediate future to his current employer last week amid reports that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy rejected multiple bids from City for Kane's services.

While speaking with talkSPORT’s Faye Carruthers for a piece published Tuesday, Kane explained why he believes the transfer saga won't damage his reputation or standing among the Tottenham faithful.

"I think anyone involved in the football industry knows the ins and outs," the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner said. "I was quite calm with the situation, but when you’re in it and you know the truth, then your conscience is clear.

"There’s always going to be noise. My whole career I’ve had ups and downs from when I’m young to where I am, that’s just part of the parcel of it. A lot of people that know me will say I’m a professional athlete who’s dedicated my life to this game and that’s what I’ll continue to do. I’ll look forward now, the aim has always been to win silverware with Tottenham and it’s been that aim every year."

Kane's current contract has three years remaining and a no-release clause, but it's possible the 28-year-old could put pen to paper on an extension that includes a pay raise and also wording that would make it easier for the Three Lions star to leave Tottenham next summer.
