Mateo Kovacic was absent from Manchester City training today. The European champions are currently preparing for their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash with FC Copenhagen. City will travel to Denmark to take on FC Copenhagen at the Parken Stadium in the first leg of the tie.

Tyrone Marshall of Manchester Evening News broke the news on his official X account that Kovacic didn’t take part in City training this morning. Attention will now shift to Pep Guardiola’s pre game press conference for an update on the Croatian midfielder.

Mateo Kovacic also wasn’t included in the City squad for their 2-nil win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The Croatian international did take part in the champions 3-1 win over Brentford. He was a late substitute in City’s win at the GTech Community Stadium.

Kovacic has had an injury interrupted debut season at the world champions. He missed three games in September with a back injury. The midfielder also withdrew from international duty with Croatia in November due to a quad injury as reported by the Athletic.

When he is fit the class of Kovacic has been evident. He played a crucial role in City’s FIFA Club World Cup triumph and adds poise, experience and quality to the City midfield. He also provides crucial support for Rodri in the Manchester City midfield.

An update on the status of Mateo Kovacic could come from Pep Guardiola when faces the media later today. Despite the absence of Mateo Kovacic from training the champions had a full squad at training Tyrone Marshall also reported.
